Philippines' inflation up to 11.4 percent

MANILA, Philippines -- The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said that continuous price increases of cereals and fuel caused the June 2008 headline inflation rate to increase further to 11.4 percent from 9.5 percent the previous month, as reported by the National Statistics Office (NSO). Core inflation rate also went up 6.6 percent for the month from 6.2 percent the previous month.

Significant gains in preventing HIV

While there have been significant gains in preventing new HIV infections in a number of heavily-affected countries and reducing the number of AIDS-related deaths, the epidemic is far from over in any part of the world, says a new United Nations report. The 2008 Report on the global AIDS epidemic, produced by the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), is the most comprehensive review of the epidemic to date with 147 countries reporting data on HIV.
